EAR RESHAPING (OTOPLASTY)

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure used to correct defects in the shape of the ears.

Otoplasty Explained

The most common defect is represented by the prominent or “Dumbo” ears: the otoplasty makes it possible to correct this problem, which often causes psychological distress, especially in children.

The procedure is often performed in children but can be performed also in adults.

What to Expect from Otoplasty

The surgery lasts approx. 1 hour and it is performed in the operating room, with local anaesthesia or, when necessary (mainly in children) under general anaesthesia.

The resulting scar is not very visible because it is located behind the ears.

Usually, no hospitalisation days are required. The stitches will be removed after 1 week. Return to regular activities is possible after a few days. Children can go back to school after 1 week, avoid sports for a few weeks, and must avoid activities that can cause ear trauma. The patient will have to wear a headband for 2/3 weeks after surgery.
