What is Hybrid Breast Augmentation?

The hybrid breast augmentation is a breast enlargement procedure using both implants and your own fat.

Ideal candidate for this procedure is women with breast asymmetry, chest wall deformity such as an indented or prominent sternum and for women who want a more natural look that fat transfer provides but desire more volume than can be achieved by fat alone.

The main advantage of adding fat to a breast implant in a breast augmentation procedure is that the fat can be placed strategically in the cleavage and around the implant to “soften the edges” and give a far more natural look. When a large implant needs to be used, the fat injected will reduce the implant visibility and the risk of rippling.

Another advantage is that a smaller implant can be used to achieve a specific size, reducing the risk of complications related to very large implants.

Why Not Enlarge the Breasts Just With Your Own Fat?

Injecting only your own fat would be ideal, but some of the fat will be reabsorbed by your body during recovery, so relying completely on your own fat gives less guarantee for a specific size of the breast.

Also injecting a large amount of fat into your breasts has increased the risk of developing oil cysts.

If a moderate to larger size increase is required then the safest way to achieve this is to use a silicone implant combined with fat used to enhance the cleavage and to provide additional cover below and to the side of the implant.
