What is a Buttock Lift?

A buttock lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the buttocks. It is normally performed on patients with large amounts of loose or sagging skin around the buttocks.

It may be combined with a tummy tuck, and the 2 procedures performed together are called belt lipectomy or lower body lift.

A buttock lift can eliminate the appearance of drooping skin and give the buttocks a more toned, athletic appearance.

This quite popular procedure addresses common effects of natural ageing and weight loss that cause extra skin and fat to accumulate in the region of the buttocks.

Typical buttock lift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and can last around 3 hours.

When combined with a tummy tuck, as part of a belt lipectomy, all procedures will last 5-6 hours and will require a 2-3 night stay in the hospital.

Surgery and Recovery

Some swelling and bruising are normal after buttock lift surgery, and it may be 6 to 8 weeks before you feel completely back to normal.

A compression garment is worn for about 6 weeks after surgery to control swelling and facilitate the healing process.

Strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for 8 weeks.

A full buttock lift typically involves incisions made at the top of the buttocks.

You should allow 12-18 months for your scars to flatten and lighten in colour.

Main risks and complications:
Pain
Bleeding
Infection in a surgical wound
Blood clots
Unsightly scarring
Minor asymmetries of scars
Altered skin sensations
Recurrent skin looseness
