The resulting scars are usually around the edge of the areolas, and from the lower edge of the areoles to the inframammary crease. In some patients, a third scar will be needed along the inframammary crease. At the end of the procedure drainage tubes will be inserted to remove small bleedings in the first hours after surgery; a bandage will also be applied.
Drainage and bandage will be removed the day after surgery. The bandage will be replaced by a special bra that the patient will have to wear for about a month. The stitches will be removed after 7-10 days.
In the event of significant reductions, the sensitivity of the areolas and nipples may decrease or disappear for a few months; in very rare cases the loss of sensitivity is definitive.
The return to work takes place after about 2 weeks: during the recovery period, the patient can lead an almost normal life with the only precaution to avoid intense physical exertion.
It is advisable for the patient to know that this surgery leaves fairly extensive permanent scars, depending on the case. The scars will be red for a few months and will become gradually less visible.
