Few measurement systems are more misunderstood than bra size, but understanding your starting bust is essential when enquiring with a cosmetic surgeon in London<\/a> about potential augmentation or reduction work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst the first brassiere patent was filed in 1911<\/a>, it would take until 1916 for the term cup to be used, and the use of letters for cup sizes was not even established until 1932, with a bewildering number of different standards, sizes and systems for measuring breast size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With eight out of ten women wearing the wrong bra size for their bust, it is essential to know your own bust size to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step One: Measure Band Size<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first step is measuring the size of the bra band, which sits just below the breast and around your torso, and to measure it you need to use either a non-padded bra or take your current one off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use a measuring tape to measure around the body, keeping the tape snug but not so tight as it digs too deeply into the skin. Once you get a measurement, round to the nearest whole number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you have that number, add four if it is even and five if it is odd to get your band size in inches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Two: Measure Bust Size<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Loosely wrap the measuring tape over your nipples and around the fullest part of your chest. Round the result to the nearest whole number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Three: Subtract Band Size From Breast Size<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Take the two numbers and subtract your band size from your bust size, and whatever number you have left will correspond to your cup size. This means that a zero corresponds with an A cup, anything less than one is a B cup, one is a C cup and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, if your band size is 30 inches, that would after adjustment be a 34-inch band, and if the bust size is 36 inches, that would correspond with a 34B bra size.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
